Casa Lagos
Land subdivision and new build
The subdivision plan dictated a clear alignment, almost indisputable in its obviousness. Therefore, one by one, the volumes followed this alignment without question. For eight consecutive plots there was no discussion. The last building, stubbornly, refused to continue. It rotated slightly and inaugurated a new relationship with the street that corresponds to it. The project came into play exactly between the first alignment and the last volume. It had to be a house, but it also had to assume the responsibility of mediating. For this reason, it was divided. On the top, it married a volume to the dominant geometry. On the bottom, it rotated and justified the disobedience of the last plot. Between these gestures, it left voids – entrances of light and places where the house finds relationships with the exterior that transcend those imposed by the general plan. The rest is history.
